Walk Through The Web Wednesday 2/15

siamese cat on a leash walking through a garden

Hello All You Cats and Kittens (and humans too),
Alberto here with my weekly purrrusal of the web. I’ve got some working cats, a sporting cat, luxury for cats and a “must see” documentary for feline fans. Enjoy!

Police build mini condo for unofficial mascot ‘SWAT Cat’ – The Boston GlobePolice

Calico mascot of the Boston SWAT team gets a new houseMembers of the mobile SWAT team in Roxbury have constructed some fancy digs for their calico “unofficial” mascot SWAT.

This lucky feline received a one-story apartment with a spacious interior, a nice deck for outdoor dining (and perhaps entertaining) custom-made outdoor living facility .  Now that’s a job with some good benefits, food and fancy lodging!

George the Cat goes to work at the local Wilco Store – Daily Mail

British tabby cat hangs out in Wilco storeGeorge, the tabby has decided that the retail life is for him.  He’s created quite a sensation in the Wilko store (a budget store) in Bristol, England.

George has created quite a sensation and has garnered a fan club as well. Some fans created a Facebook page for him. When asked about his job description, the response was that he takes strolls in the aisles (probably greeting customers), catnapping on mats and relaxing on cushion displays. Sounds like a good job to me!

A concentrated effort was made to find out if George has a human, and he does. His human remarked that “he has a loving home with two other cats but I can’t keep him in and he keeps returning to the shops to say hello.”

Well, I guess if you’re a career minded kitty, you’ve just got to do what you need to do.

Kedi-The ‘Citizen Kane’ of Cat Documentaries – IndieWire

black and white cat from the Turkish movie Kedi,IndieWire refers to this feline film as “technically  a sophisticated, artful documentary from Turkish film maker Ceyda Tourun.”. That’s a  bunch of human language to say that this movie tells the story of Turkish felines and the humans who love them.  Although stray cats are sort of a cultural thing in Turkey, their cats are loved and cared for by the people of Instanbul. The film opened in New York on Feb. 0 and will be in Los Angeles on Friday. You can watch a ” target=”_blank”>preview  here.

Now I don’t understand all this “film speak” but I do know that any movie about felines is a good movie! Oh, and guess what “kedi” means in Turkish…cat, of course!

The Amazing Skiing, Swimming & Hiking Norwegian Cat – Adventurecats

orange cat skiing with his humanWe felines, by nature, are athletic and supple. Why even Tucker, our 16-pound Alpha can leap onto a high stool and onto the kitchen counter in an elegant and acrobatic movement. But Jesper, the Norwegian athlete takes athleticism to an entirely new level. He even has his own Facebook page. And if you don’t  believe that Jesper is the ultimate feline athlete, check out the video of him swimming.

His human says that Jesper likes hiking in the mountains and forests but he really loves fishing trips. She said some of her best memories are “When we are on fishing trips in the evening. It’s dark and we make food on the campfire, and he is sitting with us. He’s our best buddy in fur. It’s a special time for us.”

Well, Jesper, I commend you but I think I will contain my outdoor adventures to my regular strolls through our garden wearing my stylish harness and leash.

 Longcroft Luxury Cat Hotels

tabby cat in wrought iron kitty bedLast week I told you about a fancy feline hotel in Indonesia and this week I’ve discovered an entire chain of feline luxury hotels in England.

So here’s what you proper British Moggies can expect when you check in:

  • a sumptuous suite with decorations befitting a 5 star hotel
  • wrought iron beds with soft pillows
  • A La Cat menus served on bone china
  • there is a themed garden area for each cat suite
  • 24 hour human concierge service
  • cheerful music guaranteed to get a feline purring

After reading this and looking at the a-cat-modations on the website, I have only one question, “Human, when are you sending me to a Longcroft hotel?”<style type=”text/css”> .wpb_animate_when_almost_visible { opacity: 1; }</style>

Oliver, the “Hairy Houdini” of Cats

Hello Friends,

black and white cat with a sneer on his face

Me, sporting my new black and white collar. Note the look of happiness on my face.

Oliver here. I’d like to share my “battle of the collar” with you. The humans have a rule; every member of The Tribe of Five must wear a collar with our names and the human’s phone number. Even though we are inside kitties, there has been the odd occasion over the years when one of us has slipped through someone’s legs and shot out the door to explore the garden or the neighborhood, hence the reason for the identification on the collars. Oh, and each collar has a bell because when there are five felines in the household who aren’t well-behaved all of the time, the humans are able to identify who is walking around, racing up the stairs, or jumping off the counter by the sound of our bells.

My brother Alberto and I came to live with the humans about a year and a half ago. The female human promptly ordered us collars. The collars arrived and were placed around our necks. Alberto (and the rest of the Tribe of Five) sport their collars proudly. I, on the other hand, have issues with these things. I’ve spent much time learning how to remove the offending collar (the “safety” feature is wonderful for ridding myself of the offensive item when I get my teeth into it and pull in just the right manner.)

black and white cat chewing on his collar

Whoops, busted!

I lost my first green collar quickly. The humans searched the house but I’d hidden it so well they gave up. A second collar was ordered. I pulled on that one so much, I managed to break the plastic buckle rendering the thing useless.

The female human thought she’d try a new tactic. She went shopping and bought yet another new collar. She declared it perfect for me and told me over and over how “dapper” I looked in the black and white restraint, and how well it matched my luxurious coat. Then she had a small tag made with my name on the front and the human’s cell numbers on the back. This was attached to the collar with the bell.

So, it’s not bad enough that I’m forced to wear this restraint now; I’m forced to suffer further distress with a tag that clinks against the attached bell. Every step I make, I hear, “tinkle, tinkle, clink, clink”. It is maddening. Alberto heard the “song of my collar” immediately, ran over to me and promptly slapped my tag and bell back and forth, enjoying the new “toy”. I was not amused.

black and white cat with black and white checked collar

I refused to turn around so the female human was forced to photograph the newest constraint this way.

I admit it did take a little more time to figure out how to extricate myself from this contraption but I managed- five times. The first four times, the humans successfully located my hiding place for the restraint and attach it to me. The fifth time I hid it so far away they’re still looking for it.

Sadly, the female human found my very first collar and had the temerity to make me wear it this morning before she left for work. I have an entire day to get the thing off of me and bury it in a place she’ll never look.

I don’t know about the rest of my feline friends, but I hate these collar things and I refuse to accept them in the docile manner Tucker and Jasmine have (they’ve been wearing the same collars for 13 years!)

I call all my collar-despising feline friends to unite! Tell me your terrible collar tales and let’s figure out how to put an end to this barbaric practice!

Your Soon to Be Collarless Friend,

Oliver

Walk Through The Web Wednesday 2/8

siamese cat on a leash walking through a garden

Hello World,
Alberto here. I must say I’m looking fondly at my logo photo as we have had so much snow in our neck of the woods some parts of where we live have been declared disaster areas. Also, the humans have been doing a lot of complaining about this thing they do outside called “shoveling”. Evidently there is some connection with this “shoveling” activity and painful backs. Oliver and I sit on the window sill and watch them and we appreciate them moving outside for our amusement and entertainment. In our book, this “shoveling” activity is a great spectator sport.

But I digress, here are the little feline related gems I’ve found during my regular purrrrusal of the information highway. Enjoy!

Cats Can Now Stay in A Fancy 5 Star Hotel – Metro UK

five star hotel in Kuala Lumpur for catsI’m not a big fan of travel, as a matter of fact, I hate anything that has to do with a carrier and a car but I must say, if the humans ever decide to take me to Kuala Lumpur, I’m demanding that they get me a reservation at Catzonia. This is every traveling cat’s dream with 35 bedrooms, airport pick-up, spa treatments and a lounge area. Heck, with complimentary airport pick-up, the humans could send me on a little getaway all by myself. This place caters to the most finicky of felines and even offers a kitty dating service.  And, if the humans are worried about me traveling by myself, Catzonia has that covered as well, all rooms have 24 hour CCTV coverage that can be watched via iPhone so the humans need not worry about me. All that luxury is making me rethink my aversion to travel. Pack my bags humans, I’m off to Kuala Lumpur!

The Latest Fashion Trend for Cats, Knitted Scarves – Rocket News 24

calico cat in hand knitted cat neck scarfI fancy myself as a fashionable sort of guy so when I discovered this new trend I found it quite interesting (especially in light of the cold climate where we live and the fact that the humans have something called a “nest” that makes the house cooler when they are at work. I have no idea why they call it a nest, there’s not a bird in sight but I do have to say that a cat shouldn’t have to snuggle on a faux fur throw in the sofa just to stay warm until the humans return home!)  During the colder times of the day, a scarf might just come in handy. Valentines Day is coming soon and I think every human should consider getting a Nekko muffler for their beloved felines (at $17.50 each it’s a deal!)

Scollar Mini, Smart Collar for Cats (and Small Dogs)-Gadgets & Wearables

calico cat with scollar that tracks cat, health and much moreThis is a multi function collar that is really made more for the convenience of the humans than us felines. It has many functions and is run with a smart phone app and can track us, train us (well, the training thing must be for the dogs, certainly NOT the felines), monitor our activity (hmmm, does that mean the humans will know when I’m on the kitchen counter?), monitor our health, open the pet door, dispense food communicating (not sure how this works unless the collar thingy speaks fluent feline), has an anti-barking reminder (again, this is for the canines only), and perimeter barriers (again, this must be for the doggies, cat’s do not recognize barriers).  The collar has something called a display that tells other humans where you live and how to contact your people in case you just manage to slip through the legs of any company that comes to the front door. You can’t buy this thing yet but when it’s ready the cost will be about $99.00. Frankly, I’d rather have a new cat scratcher.

David Cameron, “I Miss Larry The Cat” – The Telegraph

former prime minister David Cameron and Larry the 10 downing street catYou know how much I love working cats so I had to feature this article about Larry, the Cat at 10 Downing Street. Although Larry is a public official, he does have an important job as Chief Mouser. There were rumors circulating that the former Prime Minister was no great fan of Larry’s but a recent interview has shown this not to be true. Cameron noted that he made a special effort to take a cat “selfie” before he left his position.  Larry and Palmerston, the Foreign Office Cat had some issues (which I reported on earlier) but all seems to be resolved at this time. The bigger question is the new PM, Theresa May and the less than enthusiastic reception she gave Larry, stating, that she’s more of a dog person. I have one thing to say to Theresa May, unless she softens her stance toward Larry, I will make it my mission to stand in front of the TV so that the male human is unable to watch Prime Minister’s questions. I may be a cat but I have certain purrrrlitical views when it comes to my fellow felines.

Newlyweds, their Amazing Cat & Their Cross Country Adventures – I Heart Cats

honeymoon couple treavel to national parks with their black and white cat

As we move toward Valentine’s Day, I thought a story about true human and feline love would be a great idea, and what’s more romantic than Cees and Madison Hofman and their kitten Vladimir spending their first year of wedded bliss on the road, exploring all 59 U.S. National Parks?

The couple said their goal was to make their furry family member the “cutest, coolest, smartest, best adventure kitty out there.” Hats off to Vladimir who is not only leash trained but clicker trained as well. You go Vlad! You can follow Vladimir and his humans on Instagram

Roomba Cats and Superbowl Ads – Ad Week

tabby cat riding a roombaThe female human does consulting and a lot of business with the company GoDaddy.com. I can wholeheartedly recommend this company as they are doing roomba-cat Superbowl ads this year. The female human and I think the male human should buy her a roomba and I have volunteered to pilot it. Take a sneak peek at one of the ads.

Hong Kong Shop Cats Help Business – The Daily Mail

You know I just can’t let a Wednesday go by without posting something about working cats. This week, I found a story about a photographer who spent a year taking pictures of Hong Kong’s shop cats.  And the folks in Hong Kong know a thing or two about felines, they consider their shop cats fortunate and they acknowledge that their furry coworkers help bring in customers to their stores.

Here’s to all the shop kitties in Hong Kong and the rest of the world.

Bubble Bowl Chair for Cats – Metro UK

black and white cat in clear feline bubble chairFurniture for cats is nothing new. I can tell you our humans spend a lot of cash on feline furnishings for our home. What is new about this item is that this chair is comfortable for cats and fun for humans as well. You know we like to slink into odd-shaped items and contort our lithe bodies into amazing forms. This chair allows us to do this and, since it’s a clear blubble, the humans get the full, entertaining effect of our antics.  The female human was ready to order one for the Tribe of Five, but it’s on something called “Kickstarter” and the donation amounts are in Hong Kong dollars. As soon as she figures out how to do this, I’ll let you know.

Valentine’s Day Gift Ideas for Cats & Cat Moms from Etsy-Melissa’s Mochas, Mysteries and Meows

Valentine’s Day, the day to show love between humans and felines is coming soon. I found some wonderful gift ideas, gifts the humans can buy for their fur kids and gifts the fur kids can give their humans (as long as one of the humans helps them with ordering and paying!)  I love the catnip kickers because soft, long catnip filled toys that I can grab and kick with my back legs are my faves.  The female human liked all the ideas but, since she never met a piece of jewelry she didn’t like, she especially liked the cat pendant (and the fact that it looks a bit like my brother Oliver). Don’t forget to show your humans some extra love on Valentines Day!

Jasmine Opines on Vaseline for Hairballs

Hello All, Jasmine here,
Siamese cat dipping into Vaseline jarI want to talk about something the humans do that I find disgusting, frightening and horrible. It’s when they bring out a squeeze tube, squeeze some brown, sticky substance from it and then attempt to make us eat it.

None of the Tribe of Five can stand it and although we are not fond of hairballs, we’d rather hack up a hairball than go through this trauma. The female human insists that it says on the tube that all she has to do is stick the brown goop on our paws and we’ll lick it off. Well, file that under “F” for fat chance! We can’t stand the smell or the goo and we run downstairs and hide under the big sofa until the humans give up.

Fortunately, the female human is very big on the concept of keeping The Tribe of Five in an environment that is fear free. Take it from me, the torture of the dark sticky stuff is far from “fear free”.

This led the female human to do some research about Vaseline  (petroleum jelly). Evidently it’s okay for felines to take for hair balls and wonder of wonder,  I love it! I especially like the fact that I can dip my paw into the jar and administer it myself. You can watch my instructional video for felines and humans here.

The Tribe of Five gives the Vaseline method a two “paws up” and, if your human is torturing you with the dark, nasty sticky stuff. just wander over to the nearest open jar of petroleum jelly, dab your paw inside and let them know you can take care of your own hairball issues! Now the female human insists that I tell you she is not a veterinary professional, nor is Vaseline preferred over a hairball remedy but, when you have a feline like me with a complete aversion to the brown gooey stuff, it might be worth a try.

The Felines Opine On 2016

tukcrownTucker Opines

Well, I must say, 2016 was fairly much like 2015. I retained my lofty position on the red chair in the living room, received treats regularly and even strolled (under human supervision) on the upstairs deck.

The “little guys” as we call them continued to be annoying and always  up to  some kitten shenanigans  but they do recognize my authority as the Alpha of The Tribe of Five and now that they’re just over a year, they are settling down a bit.

And they are making themselves useful. Oliver has decided he likes my prescription food and this is quite convenient for me.. Each morning, when the female human comes out of the bedroom, Oliver races down the hallway and does a little dance by the food bowl. The female human obediently goes to the pantry in the laundry room, grabs the food and fills both of our bowls. Having Oliver around is never having to say, “I’m hungry”.

I’m looking forward to another relaxing year as Alpha as I take up my post on the red chair (or, as the humans refer to it, the “throne”), watch the household antics of Oliver and Alberto, receive my treats and have a perpetually full food bowl.

Jasmine Opines

Siamese cat Jasmine in fake nose and glassesWell, I am still living in the human’s bedroom but things have progressed. If you’re wondering why I live in the bedroom, you can read about it in Amelia’s story.

There have been some breakthroughs in 2016. The humans invite Lily into the bedroom frequently in the evenings and things are progressing enough that  I will actually come out from under the bed when she’s there (although sometimes she forgets she’s supposed to show me deference and chases after me, resulting in a loud a hissy fit and a big “fluffy tail”).. The female human is also leaving the bedroom door open periodically (when she can watch Lily and make sure she doesn’t waltz in.)  I am optimistic about the future.

Siamese cat sitting at a snowy windowThere is much in my two-room environment to keep me interested, the automatic red dot thingy Siamese cat sitting oi chair in front of widow in winterthat twirls and spins and throws red dots down the hallway, huge windows and wide window ledges that look out to the woods around the house.  I often have visitors come by. Some are felines, some are birds, some are squirrels and there is the occasional raccoon as well.

My brother Tucker comes and visits and sleeps overnight, as does Oliver and Alberto.  Tucker sleeps in one of the cushy cat beds but  Alberto and Oliver are a bit disruptive so they end up being escorted out of the room at some time in the wee hours.

The female human showed me that you don’t have to go out to do good work for pets. She and her sister founded a lost pet social media organization for our area and many pets have been reunited with their families thanks to all the good people who help.

All in all, it’s been a good year and much more interesting than last year. The female human told me that when I write my year end comments for 2017, she hopes I’ll be telling you how I roam around the house again.

Lily Opines

cat with New Years hat and glassesIt’s been a good year. I’ve been in the human’s bedroom many times and I’m thinking Jasmine and I may be friends after all (as long as I don’t forget myself and  chase her).

I have a nice routine with the female human. Each evening after she finishes making dinner, she goes downstairs and gets a pail full of cat food. She calls this “junk food” and won’t let us eat it on a regular basis, but she does give Alberto and I a few bits. If Tucker deigns to sashay down the stairs to join us, he gets a few pieces too. She then takes the pail and puts the food down on the patio for our masked friends. One of them comes with her little masked babies and I like to sit by the sliding glass doors and chat with them about woodland life versus indoor life. Seems to me I have the better deal.

The female human’s story “All My Children Wear Fur Coats” was published in February in the newest Chicken Soup for the Cat Lover’s soul book. This experience made her even more interested in writing about and for cats (it’s because of this that she is our purrrrsonal assistant and types for us in this blog). She was even on several radio shows talking about the fabulous Tribe of Five and is now working on something she refers to as a “cozy mystery” that has two cats as main characters (I hope one of them is me).

This month was a bit stressful. Some of the human’s relatives visited, and, although I am sure they are wonderful people, I did not want to be bothered so I spent the time downstairs, burrowed under the sofa cover. The Tribe of Five produced a manual for guests who visit homes with felines, you may want to ensure your humans read this.

It’s been a purrfectly wonderful  year and I look forward to a purrfectly wonderful 2017 as well.

Oliver Opines

Black and white cat with new years mask and hatI would say that I probably had the most exciting year as I threw my hat in the ring as the Kitty Cat Party cat-i-date for purresident. My running mate, Olive, from Three Chatty Cats, and I even sent our human to a conference called Blogpaws with campaign buttons to spread the word about our platform.

Olive and I presented a complete platform only to find that the Today Show featured another feline who was running and never even mentioned my name so I had to take them to task, sheesh, what’s a cat got to do to get some press coverage?

Sadly, my running mate and I did not win but this does black and white kitten runs for presidentnot mean that I have abandoned all my purrlitical aspirations. I have been reading about cats that are mayors, customs officials and even a Chief Mouser for the British Cabinet.  Now that I have some experience, I’m thinking I might just be successful at this purrlitical thing.

No matter what I decide to do in 2017, it will be a great year and I look forward to opining all about it.

Alberto Opines

Siamese cat in bag wearing party hatIt was a great year. I was the official spokes-purrson for the Kitty Cat Pawty campaign and I quite enjoyed all the attention.  Even though my brother Oliver didn’t win, he told me there would be a job for me if he ever entered the purrlitical arena again.

Things in the spring and summer were grand. The humans bought us a portable catio and we all enjoyed
bird and squirrel watching on the front porch and upstairs deck in complete safety. Ever since the female human took a class about the concept of “Fearless” cat raising, she’s made sure our home is as fear free as possible.

The next exciting thing I experienced was being able to Siamese ca walking on leash in the gardenstroll through the front garden with a harness and leash. I quite enjoy myself when the female human takes me out to explore.

I had fun with the male human showing him how to pluck the string things on his guitar, we made some lovely mewsic together

img_2553Fall was a bit dicey. First the humans tried to put some ridiculous thing on me that they called a “dinosaur costume”. I was having none of it and, as you can see by my expression, I conveyed my unhappiness quite clearly.

Then, the female human came out into the living room one night made up like a feline. I was completely gobsmacked (as my British moggie friends would say). At first I was freaked out. Was she going through some strange human to feline transformation? If she was transforming into a cat, who would take over all the things she does for us? (I don’t trust siamese cat and woman with cat ears and cat make-upthe male human to do this). Once I calmed down and figured out she was not cat-morphing I became a bit annoyed. Was she mocking us? It was a terrible “faux paws”  and one, I am fairly certain, the female human will not repeat.

As I lounge by the fire, I am thinking what a happy cat I am and I think 2017 will be even better.

A final note from the #TribeOfFive

Thanks to all our friends out there in the blogosphere. We love the notes we receive from other felines (and other non-feline creatures…and even humans)  and we look forward to entertaining and enlightening you all from our little corner of the world in 2017.

Purrs & Meows,
Tucker, Jasmine, Lily, Alberto & Oliver

It Isn’t Christmas Without Catmas Carols!

tuckiesantahatwreathHello All and Meowry Christmas,
Tucker here. As the Alpha in the house, it is my job to ensure that tradition is maintained during the holidays as regards the  Tribe of Five.

The female human, many years ago, when she was dating the male human, purchased a book for the male human called “Catmas Carols”. It was her attempt to lure him into her feline loving world. It evidently worked because six months after they were married, they got a kitten (you can read the story in Chicken Soup for the Cat Lover’s Soul, My Very Good, Very Bad Cat). The story is called “All My Children Wear Fur Coats”. The female human told me to tell you the book makes a good Christmas gift. I am disgusted that the female human would have me shilling for her this way but she does give us much love and care so I guess I owe her a plug for the book.

Anyway, to get back to the Catmas Carols, this little book has wonderful Christmas songs and the female human serenades us every Christmas with these wonderful feline carols. It is a long-standing tradition and one we love so, I thought I’d share a few of these wonderful songs with you. Catmas Carols was written by Laurie Loughlin and illustrated by Mary Ross and, if you are still looking for a gift for your feline friends, I’d highly recommend it.

I’ve featured the cover and two of the wonderful Catmas tunes. Sing along with your feline friends (and if the canines want to join in, please share the spirit of the holiday and allow them to sing along without swatting them.)

Walk Through the Web Wednesday 11/16

siamese cat in black and white with blue eyes, Alberto, Feline Opines

Hello World,
Alberto here. I’ve been purrrusing the internet looking for new and unusual feline themed stories and have some great ones for you this week.  As next week is what the humans refer to as a “holiday” my purrsonal assistant may not be available to post my regular Wednesday feature. We will post an original photo and send Howl-iday wishes though.
In the meantime, enjoy this week’s features.

Feature Shoot – Pounce by Seth Casteel

kitten flying through the air for the book "Pounce"The human photographer Seth Casteel, is known for his books, Underwater Dogs and Underwater Puppies and has now turned his attention to shelter kittens.  He captures some special shelter kittens with names like , Chicken, FruityPebble, Fuzzbucket, Doodlebug, and Jennifer, in mid-flight pounce. This wonderful human is highlighting the fact that there are between 30 and 40 million stray cats in the US. An estimated 1.4 million are euthanized in shelters, unable to find safe and loving homes. This book illustrates the joy of kittens and the fact that there are many cats and kittens who need forever homes in shelters all across the country. Every one of us in #TheTribeOfFive were adopted and we are all for anything that helps other felines find forever homes too.

Evening Standard – 10 adorable photographs of London’s most famous pub cats

black English pub catAs my regular readers know, this working feline loves stories about other working cats. This is a pictorial tribute to felines that work in “Boozers” as the English refer to the establishments also known as pubs. I think working in a pub would be quite interesting and I wonder, do they get tips like the human bartenders do?

Mental Floss – 11 Brilliant Gifts for the Cat In Your Life

tabby kittens with Christmas hatsThe #TribeOfFive is pretty spoiled and we have lots of great toys and feline themed items. As a matter of fact, number 8 on the list is something we already have (and have reviewed), Music for Cats (we recommend it highly). There were many on this list that I found appealing but I finally decided the KitNipBox was my favorite. It works on so many levels, we felines get a gift a month and a portion of the monthly cost is donated to animal welfare organizations. It just doesn’t get any better than that!

What Do You Give The Cat Owner Who Has Everything?  Katzenworld

Orange tabby with meowlingual cat meow translator‘Lest you think I’m completely selfish, I am also interested in what gifts are best for feline-loving humans. Our friends at Katzenworld and their guest poster, Mike James (who describes himself as a tech-obsessed, cat-loving content writer working with Best VPN) provide some excellent choices for your favorite humans this Christmas. I purrrused the list and can’t decide what I like best, the remote cat toys or the Meowlingual, cat translator. While it would be pawsome to have red dots and other kitty delights moving around the house while the humans are at work, it would be very handy for my humans to have a Meowlingual translator too. Just think, I could sit on the computer keyboard and dictate my Walk Through the Web Wednesday posts to my purrsonal assistant!

7 Sounds That Cats Make And What They Mean

gray kitten talking into a microphoneWhile I’m on the subject of translating “cat-speak” if you don’t have a Meowlingual cat translator, you can still learn how to understand a bit of feline talk.  You will be able to discern the difference between the trill, the bip, the yowl, the chatter and other feline expressions after reading this post by Care2. At our house, every one of #TheTribeOfFinve has some Siamese heritage and that means some are quite “yakky”. Sometimes it’s almost like a feline symphony at our place!

Oliver’s Concession Speech

img_1390Dear Friends,
While I always thought getting a kitten into the White House was a bit of a stretch, my running mate Olive, from Three Chatty Cats and I were always hopeful. We do hope that there will be a “First Feline” in Washington who will take our needs and concerns under advisement.

The Kitty Cat Party will rise again and in the meantime, untitledthanks for your support and today, be sure and thank a veteran for their service!

Your Friend,
Oliver

Love Meow – Jack the Store Cat

jakethestorecatxThe owners of a wine store met a feline and thought they would find him a home. The feline, named Jake, had other ideas. He loved the store so much, he’s now the “Meow-an-ager”. Now, before you get on your high horse and decry the fact that this cat has a job, it was his choice and Jake holds court at his store, seeing his admiring public (many bearing gifts) on a daily basis. Two paws up for Jake who landed himself a cushy life.

The Daily Mail – Cat Wine

Cats can choose from a nice Pinot-Mewo or a MosCATo from Apollo Peak.  If you think this is a joke, you’re partly correct. That’s how the whole idea started but now the wine is sold world-wide. And before  you worry that this is not a good idea for felines, the creator of Cat Wine used to work in the pet food industry so he understands the fine feline palate.
Can’t wait for the weekend when the humans and I can share a cocktail.

Traveling Cats – The Cat From Petra (Jordan)

orange tabby guards the ancient city of PetraI’ve heard of shop cats, library cats, railroad station cats and even felines with political positions but I’ve never heard of a cat that guards an ancient and important place, until I heard about an orange Tabby who guards the ancient pink city of Petra in Jordan. The folks from Far Away At Home met this fine fellow on a trip there. Take a look at his photo, I think he has sort of a mystical look that’s perfect for guarding ancient relics.
