Linky Party June 3

Five cats in hats celebrating Linky Party

Hello Friends,
It’s party time again. We took a brief hiatus as some of the humans involved were in a place called Myrtle Beach for something called #BlopPaws. I was the “on the scene” reporter for Feline Opines and I will be doing some apres conference reporting as well. One thing I do know, the female human comes back from this conference with copious amounts of feline goodies!  So, without further ado, I bring  you my three faves from the last Linky Party!

I love that the phone Barley’s human uses decided that the oh so handsome and debonair feline Soth is a human and insisted flagging Soth’s photos as a human. Works for me!

I love to read about wonderful places for felines who haven’t yet found their furever home and I especially love rescue cats who are involved in spreading the word about other rescue cats! Lola, I hear ya’, every one of the Tribe of Five are rescues and we are forever grateful!

Now since I (and my four housemates) take every opportunity to opine about the world and the feline view of life, I give two paws up to this savvy feline who has a few things to say about this human holiday called “naked gardening day”. And I concur, what has been seen cannot be unseen, just sayin’

Walk Through the Web Wednesday 5/31

siamese cat on a leash walking through a garden

Hello Folks,
Alberto here. You may have noticed I’ve been on a bit of a hiatus with my Wednesday postings. I had quite a bit of work to do as the official #FelineOpines #BlopPaws cat on the ground reporter. I will be posting a wrap up soon, I must say, I’m very glad the human decided to attend, it was wonderful!

But enough about me, here are my feline faves of my weekly wanderings on the information highway.

Your Friend,

Cat-Filled Tokyo Office Creates the Purrfect Working Environment – RocketNews.24.com

black and white cat perched on top of a computer monitorThe male human in our house is a tech professional and we often hear abut innovative stuff techies do.  This is the first time I’ve heard of tech office news that is feline related. Ferray Corporation in Tokyo has 9 resident working felines at their office. Now lest my canine friends cry “foul”, no worries, Ferray Corp hosts bring your pet to work days and other species are invited.  And even better, the company pays out a monthly  bonus of 5,000 Yen ($42.00) to anyone who adopts a cat in need of a home.

Ferray is not the only company promoting pet ownership.  A pet supply company in Tokyo encourages employees to bring their pets to work. Other companies offer benefits such as treating the death of employee’s pets as the death of a family member and provides them with time off, condolence pay and covers the cost of the funeral service.

It Takes A Village (Or A Neighborhood) To Help A Woman Keep Her Cat – Little Things

Black and white cat Romeo roams in the neighbors housesLisa Marie McKenzie received Romeo the cat as a Mother’s Day gift and she was thrilled, until she learned that pets weren’t allowed in her apartment. Rather than allowing her to give up the cat she loved, her neighbors stepped in with an unusual solution.

They created an open door policy for Romeo, allowing him to come and go as he pleased so Lisa Marie could keep the feline she loved so much.

The neighbors filmed Romeo in some of the crazy places he likes to hang out and some even keep lists of the places he hides so Lisa Marie can locate him.

What wonderful humans these folks are. I wonder if our neighbors would be willing to have an open door policy for The Tribe of Five?

Cat Wanders Into A Gym And Gets Himself a Customer Service Job – LoveMeow.com

gray tabby works at gymThose of you who follow my weekly Wednesday web wanderings know I’m a sucker for stores about cats with jobs and when the felines in question take matters into their own paws and get the jobs themselves, well, I must tell their stories.

Meet LB, the feline who wandered into a gym and found a job and a forever home. Gym members say he enhances the atmosphere, helps them stay on track with their workouts and make the gym a place they want to come to.

LB varies his work routine, sometimes requiring pets and cuddles from members and sometimes, sitting to the side snoopervising their workouts.

The Museum of The American House Cat – Citizen Times

the house cat mjuseum in south carolinaWhile some people may be saying, “Are you kidding?” I say, IT’S ABOUT TIME!!  The museum was created by Harold Sims, a retired college professor and cat shelter owner. Now I was surprised to learn that this is not the only cat museum in the world, there is one in Ohio that displays only Japanese toy cats, so this one is, strictly speaking the only one that honors house cats.

And this is not some fly-by-night attraction. The museum is created so that folks can learn the history of house cats, it’s a real educational experience.  Sims, also known as the “Cat Man” filled the museum with hundreds of relics, knick-knacks and pieces of art related to felines,  There are photographs of famous figures with their house cats, antique cat toys and even a mummified cat discovered in a 16th century house in the chimney.  (Not sure I want to see this one)

The museum is open 6 days weekly and costs $5.00 for adults and $2.00 for children. You can take a virtual tour through the museum.

Celebrating Purrrresident’s Day

img_1444Hello World,

Oliver here. Since today is Purresident’s Day I found myself reminiscing about my run for Alpha of the Kitty Kat Pawty.

It was a great ride, I worked with my feline staff to purrrfect my purrlitical platform (at the time I threw my straw hat into the ring, I was only a kitten) so the advice of those older and wiser was greatly needed.

Tucker offered some sage advice, stating that  if a candidate would guarantee a catio on every front porch, a home and food for every feral cat and a bird feeder in front of every window (kitty cable) that cat-i-date would receive his vote.

I no sooner began my campaign when I discovered my feline competition, Limberbutt McCubbins.  As I purrused his platform I found areas where we agreed and other areas of great difference. For instance, McCubbins’ passion for homeless felines is one I share.  I was disturbed however, on his support of a return to cat space flights. Never in my wildest kitty dreams have I thought hurling hapless felines into space is a good idea.

img_1924

My furry campaign manager was  quite pleased to announce my running-mate, a sage and beautiful feline named Olive from Three Chatty Cats. Olive brought some new ideas to the campaign. She advocated for an official “Tortie Day” and promised to organize “Tortie Tuesdays”. She focused on homeless kitties and wants to see more clicker training in shelters for felines. She also promoted a mandatory “Tuna Day”. All sound ideas that all felines could get behind.

The humans had campaign buttons made and handed them out at the BlogPaws conference, provided them to Blog fans and worked hard for the cause. (Photo of actual button on the left.)

All in all it was a great run. I gave what I felt to be an excellent concession speech and made it clear that I have not given up my purrlitical aspirations.

sleeping black and white catWill I run for purrresident again? I haven’t decided but I can assure all my cat-stituents that there will be some purrlitical campaign in my future.  As I look at my options I am incorporating a strict regime of rest and reflection.

I leave you with my campaign slogan and wish you all a great Purresident’s Day!

“We must vote for tuna, vote for catnip, vote for a brighter future for all cats.”.

Walk Through The Web Wednesday 1/18/17

siamese cat in black and white with blue eyes, Alberto, Feline Opines

Hello Friends,
Alberto here. It’s time for me to share my favorite feline tidbits-enjoy!

The Expanse” Season One Re-cat,  The Verge

cat with sci fi costume onSurely you all know by now that cats rule the internet. We pop up in some of the most unusual places and, in this case felines are featured in a season recat of the Sci Fi Series, The Verge.  Disclaimer, if you start watching season 2, you will not see Julie Meow or some of the other characters depicted in this re-cat.

Sparkle Cat – Summer’s Wardrobe

sparklecatoutfitsOk, I admit it, I am a HUGE fan of Summer the Somali cat (also known as Sparkle Cat). I’m not usually a fan boy but I mean, look at her, she’s GORGEOUS!  The female human even got to meet her at BlogPaws last May. I am in the process of launching a campaign for the female human to take me to BlogPaws this May but she says it’s much to far from our far north home. Anyway, as much as I hate when the humans dress me up, Summer is one of those fantastic felines who like dress up and who look purrrrrfectly beautiful. Meows and waves to Summer (and this fan boy would love a purrrsonalized photo from his favorite star)

The Life of a Service Cat – Deziz World

ragdoll service catI have some good feline buddies on the World Wide Web. Two that I correspond with frequently are Dezi and Raena from Deziz World. Now we’ve discussed many things but one thing my friends never told me was that they are service cats. There are many cats with jobs but Dezi and Raena work 24/7. My friends are very talented and they feature great information about service cats, how to find them, train them, etc. Stroll on over there and when you do, tell them “Hi” from their buddy Alberto!

Career Cats Hold Jobs – The Virginia Gazette
black and white cat has a job at a feed storeIf you are a regular reader of my weekly mewsings, you know I love featuring articles about cats with jobs. It’s not just that I want the world to know how smart and capable we are, I love the humans who have figured out that cats who are not as fortunate as The Tribe of Five and others can still find safety, a home, regular meals and important work.  There are some wonderful humans at the Heritage Humane Society who founded the Career Cat Program. You can read about Spike who was hired at Jamestown Feed and Seed and about this great feline employment program. I sure wish the female human would look into starting a feline employment agency where we live!

The Felines Opine On 2016

tukcrownTucker Opines

Well, I must say, 2016 was fairly much like 2015. I retained my lofty position on the red chair in the living room, received treats regularly and even strolled (under human supervision) on the upstairs deck.

The “little guys” as we call them continued to be annoying and always  up to  some kitten shenanigans  but they do recognize my authority as the Alpha of The Tribe of Five and now that they’re just over a year, they are settling down a bit.

And they are making themselves useful. Oliver has decided he likes my prescription food and this is quite convenient for me.. Each morning, when the female human comes out of the bedroom, Oliver races down the hallway and does a little dance by the food bowl. The female human obediently goes to the pantry in the laundry room, grabs the food and fills both of our bowls. Having Oliver around is never having to say, “I’m hungry”.

I’m looking forward to another relaxing year as Alpha as I take up my post on the red chair (or, as the humans refer to it, the “throne”), watch the household antics of Oliver and Alberto, receive my treats and have a perpetually full food bowl.

Jasmine Opines

Siamese cat Jasmine in fake nose and glassesWell, I am still living in the human’s bedroom but things have progressed. If you’re wondering why I live in the bedroom, you can read about it in Amelia’s story.

There have been some breakthroughs in 2016. The humans invite Lily into the bedroom frequently in the evenings and things are progressing enough that  I will actually come out from under the bed when she’s there (although sometimes she forgets she’s supposed to show me deference and chases after me, resulting in a loud a hissy fit and a big “fluffy tail”).. The female human is also leaving the bedroom door open periodically (when she can watch Lily and make sure she doesn’t waltz in.)  I am optimistic about the future.

Siamese cat sitting at a snowy windowThere is much in my two-room environment to keep me interested, the automatic red dot thingy Siamese cat sitting oi chair in front of widow in winterthat twirls and spins and throws red dots down the hallway, huge windows and wide window ledges that look out to the woods around the house.  I often have visitors come by. Some are felines, some are birds, some are squirrels and there is the occasional raccoon as well.

My brother Tucker comes and visits and sleeps overnight, as does Oliver and Alberto.  Tucker sleeps in one of the cushy cat beds but  Alberto and Oliver are a bit disruptive so they end up being escorted out of the room at some time in the wee hours.

The female human showed me that you don’t have to go out to do good work for pets. She and her sister founded a lost pet social media organization for our area and many pets have been reunited with their families thanks to all the good people who help.

All in all, it’s been a good year and much more interesting than last year. The female human told me that when I write my year end comments for 2017, she hopes I’ll be telling you how I roam around the house again.

Lily Opines

cat with New Years hat and glassesIt’s been a good year. I’ve been in the human’s bedroom many times and I’m thinking Jasmine and I may be friends after all (as long as I don’t forget myself and  chase her).

I have a nice routine with the female human. Each evening after she finishes making dinner, she goes downstairs and gets a pail full of cat food. She calls this “junk food” and won’t let us eat it on a regular basis, but she does give Alberto and I a few bits. If Tucker deigns to sashay down the stairs to join us, he gets a few pieces too. She then takes the pail and puts the food down on the patio for our masked friends. One of them comes with her little masked babies and I like to sit by the sliding glass doors and chat with them about woodland life versus indoor life. Seems to me I have the better deal.

The female human’s story “All My Children Wear Fur Coats” was published in February in the newest Chicken Soup for the Cat Lover’s soul book. This experience made her even more interested in writing about and for cats (it’s because of this that she is our purrrrsonal assistant and types for us in this blog). She was even on several radio shows talking about the fabulous Tribe of Five and is now working on something she refers to as a “cozy mystery” that has two cats as main characters (I hope one of them is me).

This month was a bit stressful. Some of the human’s relatives visited, and, although I am sure they are wonderful people, I did not want to be bothered so I spent the time downstairs, burrowed under the sofa cover. The Tribe of Five produced a manual for guests who visit homes with felines, you may want to ensure your humans read this.

It’s been a purrfectly wonderful  year and I look forward to a purrfectly wonderful 2017 as well.

Oliver Opines

Black and white cat with new years mask and hatI would say that I probably had the most exciting year as I threw my hat in the ring as the Kitty Cat Party cat-i-date for purresident. My running mate, Olive, from Three Chatty Cats, and I even sent our human to a conference called Blogpaws with campaign buttons to spread the word about our platform.

Olive and I presented a complete platform only to find that the Today Show featured another feline who was running and never even mentioned my name so I had to take them to task, sheesh, what’s a cat got to do to get some press coverage?

Sadly, my running mate and I did not win but this does black and white kitten runs for presidentnot mean that I have abandoned all my purrlitical aspirations. I have been reading about cats that are mayors, customs officials and even a Chief Mouser for the British Cabinet.  Now that I have some experience, I’m thinking I might just be successful at this purrlitical thing.

No matter what I decide to do in 2017, it will be a great year and I look forward to opining all about it.

Alberto Opines

Siamese cat in bag wearing party hatIt was a great year. I was the official spokes-purrson for the Kitty Cat Pawty campaign and I quite enjoyed all the attention.  Even though my brother Oliver didn’t win, he told me there would be a job for me if he ever entered the purrlitical arena again.

Things in the spring and summer were grand. The humans bought us a portable catio and we all enjoyed
bird and squirrel watching on the front porch and upstairs deck in complete safety. Ever since the female human took a class about the concept of “Fearless” cat raising, she’s made sure our home is as fear free as possible.

The next exciting thing I experienced was being able to Siamese ca walking on leash in the gardenstroll through the front garden with a harness and leash. I quite enjoy myself when the female human takes me out to explore.

I had fun with the male human showing him how to pluck the string things on his guitar, we made some lovely mewsic together

img_2553Fall was a bit dicey. First the humans tried to put some ridiculous thing on me that they called a “dinosaur costume”. I was having none of it and, as you can see by my expression, I conveyed my unhappiness quite clearly.

Then, the female human came out into the living room one night made up like a feline. I was completely gobsmacked (as my British moggie friends would say). At first I was freaked out. Was she going through some strange human to feline transformation? If she was transforming into a cat, who would take over all the things she does for us? (I don’t trust siamese cat and woman with cat ears and cat make-upthe male human to do this). Once I calmed down and figured out she was not cat-morphing I became a bit annoyed. Was she mocking us? It was a terrible “faux paws”  and one, I am fairly certain, the female human will not repeat.

As I lounge by the fire, I am thinking what a happy cat I am and I think 2017 will be even better.

A final note from the #TribeOfFive

Thanks to all our friends out there in the blogosphere. We love the notes we receive from other felines (and other non-feline creatures…and even humans)  and we look forward to entertaining and enlightening you all from our little corner of the world in 2017.

Purrs & Meows,
Tucker, Jasmine, Lily, Alberto & Oliver

Swag Bag Report PetSafe Water Filtration Part 2-Bad Kittens & Sharp Teeth

Hello Everyone,

Tucker here. Alberto and Oliver were quite thrilled with the new water thingy the human brought home from a place she called #BlogPaws. The nice folks at Pet Safe gifted her with a water filtration system and she asked me to report about it.

Oliver the black and white cat explores the water bowlIn the first report I described Oliver and Alberto’s fascination with the moving water. As we closed our first chapter, both had posted themselves around the water thingy and looked as if they were there for the night. The humans were congratulating themselves on setting up such a wonderful thing for the Tribe of Five. (There are three of us who are still unconvinced that this set-up beats the cup on the table but time will tell).

Fast forward to this morning when Oliver and Alberto were still at their posts but no water was moving in the bowl. It only took the humans a second to discover the reason. The cord of the power pack had been chewed through in three places. (See exhibits A & B).

cord chewed through by catcord chewed through by kittens
One thing I can say for our humans-they’re not quitters. They found a new power pack and then bought something that looks like a clear worm. I heard the male human say he was going to run the power cord through it. I don’t think the stuff they bought is easily chewable but one must take the determination and diligence of the “chewing twosome” into consideration. Kids, they’re so unpredictable .

clear plastic tubing to protect cords from cats chewing
I’ll follow up as soon as we see how the human’s idea works and in the meantime, Lily, Jasmine and myself will continue to sip out of the cup on the coffee table.

Your Friend,

BlogPaws Swag Bag Report

Hello Human’s and furry friends,

BlogPaws vendor swag giftsTucker here. The female human went away for 5 days leaving us in the care of the male human. Now the male human is a great guy but the level of service we receive from him is nowhere near what the female human provides.

So, one strike against the female human for leaving us to suffer sub-par service. Then she tells us she has been to a place called #BlogPaws in a very hot spot called Phoenix. My only question is..how does this affect me?

The female human spoke about something called “swag” that would arrive on Thursday. I was under the assumption that “swag” was what I displayed when I marched my 16 pounds of awesome alpha-ness through the house. But I digress.

Today ( Thursday) a large box arrived at our door and this was the “swag” of which the female human spoke.  Food, toys, organic catnip, ….this “swag” is good stuff!

I’m sharing some photos of the quality control inspections conducted by the Tribe of Five and we’ll be blogging and reporting on the amazing products and services from the human’s  #BlogPaws experience soon.

BlogPaws Conference

Hello Folks,
AlPressBoxAlberto here. As the official spokespurrson for the Kitty Cat Pawty and Oliver and Olive’s campaign I have also been named spokespurrson for this blog.  I am pleased to announce that the Tribe of Five (with the financial help of the humans) is sending the female human to the BlogPaws conference in Phoenix this month.

We’re excited because the human is giving away campaign buttons on Oliver’s behalf in conjunction with Olive’s human at Three Chatty Cats.

I will be receiving updates from the human while she’s at the conference and reporting on all the goings on.

OllieOliveBtnIn the meantime, get your button  (one button is given away each day and buttons will be handed out at the BlobPaws conference) and look for our human and Olive’s human at the conference (they’ll be wearing the Kitty Cat Pawty buttons.

The Case Against The Kittens

Hello folks Tucker here,

There were some exciting goings on in the wee hours of the morning.  I was cuddled comfortably in my favorite chair when I heard a loud “thump”. After the “thump” there were loud rolling sounds as though a small train was traveling through the living room.

The noise subsided and I went back to sleep. I was awakened next by the sound of a door slamming and then crashes and bangs emanating from the laundry room.

The female human came out of the bedroom to investigate the noises  and as it appeared the human was on the job, I went back to sleep.

It was only after I’d been served my breakfast and the humans discussed their take on the previous night’s events that I heard the damning evidence against Alberto and Oliver.

Evidently the first “thump” was Alberto stealing a spaghetti squash from the veggie basket, knocking it to the floor and then viciously attacking the offending squash. (See photo-Exhibit B).

After tiring of the squash attack he and Oliver headed to the laundry room where their shenanigans resulted in the accidental closing of the door. They proceeded to dismantle the room in order to attract attention and facilitate a rescue. (See photo-Exhibit A)

Never a dull moment with the Tribe of Five.

Enjoy your Caturday, I’m heading off to make up for my lost sleep.
