Walk Through The Web Wednesday 4/27

Happy Wednesday Furiends,
Meowza, April is almost gone. We are starting to see signs of spring in our neck of the wods and that makes us happy. Just about every morning there are sun puddles to soak in (until the rain comes). We don’t mind the rain though. After all the summers of fires we are happy to see the moisture.

This week The Tribe had a meeting and we decided we were feeling educational and thought we’d include some tips for our readers. By “we” I mean Oliver and Lily, I wasn’t feeling very educational this week and anyway, I have to do my weekly reporting. So here are our tips for the week.

How to share the sofa, even when you aren’t very good furiends.

Oliver and Lily seem to be at odds more often than not but, when you both want to be on the sofa to watch TV with The Human, just choose a comfy spot and completely ignore the other cat.

How to find a comfy position on your cat sofa, even if you are a bit CHONKY

Making Biscuits with Oliver

We hope you enjoyed these tips and now to the news.

Catastrophe: Feline Breaks Loose On United Airlines Boeing 737 Flight

Photo: SimpleFlying.com

Meowza did this story get my whiskers in a twist! The Human was pretty annoyed as well. When we researched this story there were other headlines such as, “A feral cat escapes on a United Airlines flight and causes havoc” and “Diabolical cat terrorizes United Airlines flight”. Really??!! Let’s look at the facts.

This article claims “a tabby cat caused chaos on a recent united airlines flight after going for a run inflight and reportedly scratching and biting other passengers. “
It continues by saying, “According to the airline blog live and let’s fly, a cat recently decided to stretch its legs on a united airlines flight, escaped its owner, and got a bit scratchy and bitey as other passengers attempted to recapture it.”

Let’s review this, the CAT decided to take a stroll??!! How did the cat make this decision and how did the hapless feline let himself out of the carrier?
The article continues to show it’s ignorance of the difference between a therapy animal and an emotional support animal. Finally, way down in the article is this quote from United’s website, ““We know that pets are important members of your family,” says United’s website. But United also has rules around the carriage of pets in the cabin, including a requirement to leave the animal secured in its travel carrier/kennel.”

Bingo! Don’t blame the cat, blame the human who took him out of his cage. And why didn’t he have a harness and leash on? Again, sounds to me like human error.

There is so much misunderstanding about therapy and emotional support animals and their importance. The Human wrote an article about this called, “My Emotional Support Is My Cat” and she address misinformation about therapy vs emotional support animals.

That poor feline probably freaked out and his human did not do her due diligence to make sure there would be no incidents like this..  Okay, rant over!

She married her cat to get around her landlord’s pet restrictions

Deborah Hodge recently married her cat, India, in a loophole scheme to avoid rental restrictions, which have barred Hodge from bringing animals into the unit.

This London lady was frustrated and just wanted to show her commitment in the hopes that will prove to property owners that India is more than just an animal.

“She is fundamentally the most important thing in my life after my children,” she told South West News Service.

“By marrying India, I need any future landlords to know that we come as a package and we cannot be separated under any circumstances as she is as important to me as the children,” the cat-wife explained.

The pair both wore tuxedo-style outfits — because India, a tuxedo cat, already had one. The wedding took place in a London park.  The 5-year-old cat was draped in gold lamé and meowed through the vows as Hodge’s friends watched on, including one who legally ordained the civil union.

“I had nothing to lose and everything to gain so I married my cat!” Hodge said. “I recited vows under the universe that no man will ever tear myself and India apart.”

She had been given approval for India to live with her in 2017 but now she’s faced with eviction as she suddenly lost her job on March 17th and is struggling to pay the rent.

“I’m on my last pennies,” she said. “I’m terrified of losing India. I can barely leave my house with anxiety over what the future holds and I’m just desperate not to lose my cat.”

Hodge has said that many of her two-legged loved ones think she’s “bonkers,” but felt it was the only way to show she’s “very serious” about keeping India. Her children were not overly enthusiastic about the marriage ceremony.

As silly as all this sounds, the bottom line is this lady is emotionally bonded to her cat and, when India lost a leg a few years ago, Hodge was there for her and their connection strengthened. The human animal bond is strong and real and this feline is purraying that Hodge finds a new job and a place that will welcome human and feline.

Carmel company launches cat food with mouse meat in it

When The Human read this story she said, “Ewwwww” but Oliver, Lily and I licked our chops and wondered when we’d get to try some. Tom Radcliffe a former pet store owner took his  customer’s complaints about their finicky cats and decided to try something different.

With  some expert help – including friends’ cats and animal nutritionists with Ph.D.s – Radcliffe is making cat food out of mice. A month after its commercial launch, Mouser is for sale in pet and feed shops in California, Arizona and Nevada, and Radcliffe expects to expand to Oregon, Washington and Idaho as early as next month. Well, Idaho is our neck of the woods so we’ve told The Human to keep us posted.

The four versions of Mouser are Field Hunter, with chicken leading the ingredients; Forest Hunter, with turkey leading; Pond Hunter, with duck leading; and Brush Hunter, with rabbit leading. While Radcliffe believes the mouse meat has very broad appeal among cats, consumers may have to serve different flavors of Mouser to their pets to identify those they like best, he said.

The amount of mouse in each can is a trade secret, Radcliffe said. But he added that mice are “ridiculously expensive,” with the meat costing about 10 times more than chicken, turkey, duck or rabbit. Because the U.S. Food and Drug Administration classifies mouse along with other meats as a product that does not require pre-approval to enter the market, Radcliffe’s regulatory journey involved meeting state standards overseen by the Association of American Feed Control Officials representing local, state and federal agencies.

Retail prices for the 5.5-ounce cans of Mouser vary. Pets and More charges $2.39. At Aptos Feed & Supply, it’s $1.99, which is triple the cost of Friskies at a big box store but still puts the brand in the normal range for premium-priced canned cat foods, Delezene said.

“In the industry, we’ve talked about it for years: Why don’t they have gopher, rat, mouse, lizard tails — all the things that cats eat?” Delezene said.

Radcliffe does not appear to face current competition in the mouse-meat cat food business, but that may change soon with the potential market debut of Frankenmouse options. A company co-founded by a Stanford University microbiologist – called Because Animals – plans to release lab-grown meat foods for pets this year. The startup’s Harmless Hunt Mouse Cookies for Cats, made with “cultured mouse,” are already available for preorder.

So my finicky furiends, keep  your eyes out for Mouser in your neck of the woods and let us know what  you think.

9-Year-old’s Lemonade Stand Raises $2,000 For Shelter Cats After He Saw They Had No Toys

Never underestimate the efforts of little humans!

We salute 9-year-old Ben Miller from Boise, Idaho who raised $1,150.00 in one weekend with his lemonade stand fundraiser for the Idaho Humane Society. His compassion for the shelter began when he went to the shelter with his grandmother and noticed that the cats didn’t have any toys.

His mother helped him advertise his stand on Facebook and people from all over the valley came to support him. Ben’s  highlight of the day was when his teacher came by.

We give this little human our two paws up award!

One-eyed cat missing for five years found on Scottish oil rig

Photo NYPost.com

My readers know that this feline has a soft spot for stories of reunited felines and humans. This one-eyed cat was reunited with its owner on Friday, five years after it went missing,

This one-eyed feline was helcoptered to Aberdeen, Scotland after being discovered hidden in a storage container on a North Sea oil platform.

The black cat – nicknamed “one-eyed Joe” and also known as “Cyclops” – appeared to have been shipped from Peterhead to the platform as a stowaway in a container.

Workers filled out a safety card after discovering the animal, noting that staff had “ran away frightened” after he popped out of the container. Despite the initial surprise, staff on the platform said he was “spoiled rotten” during his time there.

Following the discovery on Thursday, the crew called in the Scottish SPCA. The charity arranged for him to be helicoptered back to Aberdeen the following day.

Joe was then found to have been a regular visitor to a local prison where it appeared he lived most of his five years away as a stray. The prison staff cared for him and he was, in their words, “much loved”.  His microchip revealed his name as Dexter a beloved pet feline who had been missing for five years.

Aimee Findlay, a Scottish SPCA animal rescue officer, said: “We are so glad that he was well looked after for the time he was missing,” said Scottish animal control officer Aimee Findlay. “But we’re even more delighted to be able to reunite him with his original owner, thanks to his microchip being up to date.”

Sigh, oh how I love a happy ending!

Walk Through The Web Wednesday 2/19

siamese cat on a leash walking through a garden

Hello Furiends,
We’re getting used to the “new normal” at our house since Angel Tucker crossed the Rainbow Bridge. As my brother Oliver and I are still young-ish felines we are easily bored and always looking for a bit of fun. Lately, our “fun” has consisted of chasing Lily down the stairs and then not letting her come pack up the stairs. The Human keeps telling us to stop being “hooligans” (whatever that means, I’m sure it’s complimentary because we are such good kitties). Lily has taken to sitting on the ledge by the stairs and watching our every move. The Human is spraying pheromone stuff all over the house but so far, it has not had the desired effects.

“Human, would you PLEASE tell Al and Ollie to stop bullying me?
“Frankly, I think Lily is being a bit over dramatic.” – Oliver
“Okay, I admit I have a twinge of guilt for ganging up on Lily.” – Alberto
” I could care less what you two knuckleheads get up to. I have my own domain in the back of the house, safe from hooligans!” – Jasmine

If any of our furiends have advice for The Human as to how to keep us from treating Lily like prey, she’d sure like to hear it!

Okay, enough about us, let’s get on the the feline gems I found this week.

Game-changing feline diet promises relief for people allergic to cats

Purina Pro Plan LiveClear will be sold in veterinary clinics, online and in pet specialty retail outlets in three formulas—Adult Chicken & Rice, Adult Salmon & Rice, and Adult Sensitive Skin & Stomach Turkey & Oat Meal.

I’ve reported on many methods attempting to stop or mitigate the cat allergies that many humans suffer from and now there is a product coming to market in April that purports to do this. Purina  Pro Pan LiveClear is formulated with a protein sourced from eggs that contain an anti Fel d1 antibody. Humans react to the protein Fel d1, produced by cats in their salivary glands. The protein is transferred to he cat’s hair and skin during grooming and it is eventually shed into the environment. It took more than ten years of research but the Purina Institute says this cat food, the first and only cat food capable of reducing the allergens in cat hair and dander is ready for the market.

Statistics show that about 20% of adult humans in the world are allergic to cats (meowza, that’s a lot!) but a study that was published last year in Immunity, Inflammation found that 47% fewer allergens were found in the hair and dander of cats eating Pro Plan LIveClear. These results manifested in the third week of feeding the cats the new product on a daily basis. The same study also found that active Fel d 1 production decreased in 97% of cats (with individual variability).

How does it work? As the cat eats the kibble coated with the special egg powder it neutralizes the Fel d 1.

Now our Human is very picky about what she feeds us and her first question was, “Is it safe for the cats?” Purina’s Director of veterinary technical communication, Jason Gagne said that the safety of the feline consumers was a key consideration. The goal was to neutralize the protein without impacting the physiology of the felines. The egg coating is perfectly healthy for cats to eat.

If you want to read more about the “sciency” details, be sure and read the article. We’re keeping our paws crossed that this will work and that more kitties will find furever homes because their humans no longer have to worry about sneezing, itching and other allergic reactions.

A Vietnam vet and a support cat formed an ‘amazing’ friendship

“We just hit it off, and we’ve been together ever since,” – Gary and Rascal

Our Human knows many people who take their felines to places to share them with others. Lots of folks at the Green Acres retirement home look forward to the bi-monthly visits from the non-profit organization, Country Cat Lady. As a rule there are about 12 residents ready to meet the dozen cats who come to visit.  The organization has been in existence a little less than two years after the founder realized what a help her cats were with her special needs son.

The Country Cat Lady’s cats are trained to be support animals through exposure to people. After they graduate from their training, they are adopted out as support animals. Even if some of the cats don’t make the cut, they are adopted out to loving, furever homes.

The top tier cats live with the Country Cat Lady and they are the ones who travel to places like Green Acres.  This is how Gary DeLude met a black cat named Trailblazer (although Gary refers to him as Rascal).DeLude says he can walk into the room, depressed about something and sitting down with Rascal makes him “feel better all over”. The Country Cat Lady has promised Gary that his buddy Rascal will stay with her so he can continue to come and visit.

The Country Cat Lady is now seeking partnerships, donations and support so she can continue and even expand her work.

What a pawsome job the Country Cat Lady has and she is helping so many people.. I hope you have something like this in your community and, if you don’t, find a human to start one!

Naughty cat disrupts live orchestra concert and steals the show

Oh my whiskers, this is hilarious. We’ve seen cats racing across sports fields, hanging out in stores and other places but this has to be my favorite “cat bomb”. The feline loving musicians try to welcome the music loving kitty but clearly this cat is having none of it. He was there for the music and not to make new friends!

Cats in Japan can now get digital resident cards in Kanagawa Prefecture

At first I had my whiskers in a twist and was quite outraged that a government would require felines to register. Then I read the article and realized this is an optional thing and might even help the humans of felines in the area.

Kanagawa Prefecture, Tokyo’s neighbor to the south, is home to 9.2 million people, just about all of whom have a form of ID. It may be a driver’s license, a student ID, or a resident card, but there’s some sort of document that says “This is who I am.” Now the felines who decide to have an ID can have one too through a partnership between the Kanagawa Prefectural government and pet-related media company PECO.

You can have the basic information on your card as well as your birth date, name of your human family members, special tricks or abilities you want the world to know about and even your motto. (Mine would be “I’m always feline fine”).

There are cards for doggos too but since this is a cat only blog I don’t feel the need to expound any further.  Oh, and the cards are free!

Osaka cat lovers warm their feet, hearts at footbath featuring feline friends

Visitors enjoy a footbath while playing with cats at the Neko Yokujo cat bath house in Osaka’s Chuo Ward. (Mainichi/Ryoichi Mochizuki)

My last feature also comes from Japan. We’ve seen cat cafes, cat hostels, condos designed for cats ad their humans, cat ID cards and other fantastic feline stuff and this is yet another creative way the folks in Osaka are finding a new way to hang out with cats.

Neko Yokujo, “cat bath house” in Japanese, is operated by Gifu-based firm Neco Republic, which manages cat cafes across the country. The 15 felines at Neko Yokujo are rescues and all are available for adoption.  And there is a hostel where guests can stay with cats, Neko Yokujo attached to the cat bath house. Meowza, I say it’s time for the good old US of A to catch up with all the fantastic feline venues in Japan!

Walk Through The Web Wednesday….on Friday??

siamese cat on a leash walking through a garden

Hello Furiends,
I have my whiskers in a twist today. Staff has been slacking off this week. The Purrsonal Assistant says it’s because she’s been busy entering our blog, some photos, etc. in the #CWA (Cat Writer’s Association) contest. IMHO she had plenty of time to do that, get our social media done, feed us, clean our litter boxes, freshen our cat grass, go to the place she calls work……hmm, okay, maybe I’d better lighten up on The Purrsonal Assistant.

While I go give The Female Human (Purrsonal Assistant aka staff) an apologetic head bonk, I hope you will purruse these new listings and enjoy them.

Meet Hamlet VIII, The Newest Algonquin Hotel Cat

I don’t know what to be excited about more….the information about the new Algonquin Hotel cat or the fact that I discovered a website called Hotels With Cats! The website is travel information for cat lovers, meowza, I love discovering new things.

But back to Hamlet. I’ve reported in the past about a previous Algonquin feline and I must say, that is one of the cushiest feline jobs ever. The Algonquin Cat custom has a long tradition. It is New York’s oldest working hotel and has had a feline mascot since a stray cat wandered in during the 1920’s. The name “Hamlet” was suggested by the actor John Barrymore and this is the name all the male cats have had. Female cats are called Matilda. The hotel has an executive assistant who also serves as Chief Cat Officer (a bit like our Female Human who also serves as our Purrsonal Assistant).  Hamlet VIII has his own business card and also receives fan mail and presents from around the world is one lucky former feral rescue!

Basepaws-the 23andMe for Felines

“So Oliver, what do you think Basepaws would say about our heritage and history…could two brothers ever look (or act) less alike?”

This feline DNA thing is pretty cool. You humans can find out about our ancestral roots, get a health report and see if our genetics influence our risk for certain health issues or if we’re carrying a genetic disorder (like Oliver who seems to be carrying the “fat” gene).   And if that information isn’t fantastic enough you humans can also find out neat things about us like predictions about our purrsonality, whether we might be likely to form a catnip addiction and other fun facts. This Basepaws stuff is the cat’s meow!

$1800.00 Feline Treadmill for Your Fat Cat

A feline treadmill for $1800.00? I’m not so sure. We opined about snoopervising The Female Human when she set up her treadmill and our positions in the mat and machine pretty much say it all. This is as much effort as we care to exert (come to think of it, The Female Human hasn’t exerted much effort on that machine lately either).

Still, when I look at my roly poly brother I have to admit that the idea of some exercise for the little fellow might be a good idea. Meet The Little Cat, an exercise machine from South Korea’s Pet Ding. Now if you felines can get over the fact that this thing looks like a hamster wheel, it has some cool features.  It’s pricey because it has all kinds of goodies like LED lights inside the wheel designed to attract the feline to the wheel and to keep the feline interested while he’s moving on it. And of course, there’s an app that goes with it as well. Humans get a live feed of the kitty work outs and they can also record their voice to encourage their kitty to move faster. The Little Cat is expected to be available for purchase in March. I think for now, I’ll just chase Oliver up and down the stairs for his daily exercise.

Meows for Military Program a Success in Tucson

Oh how I love shelters that come up with innovative programs that help felines and humans too. Hermitage No-Kill Cat Shelter and Sanctuary in Tucson teamed up with the Southern Arizona Veterans Administration Health Care System (SAVAHCS) for the ‘Meows for Military’ program which is in its third year.

The Meows for Military program provides weekly cat visits to SAVAHCS. The felines are all chosen for this purrrticular mission of being Feline Ambassadors. The veterans and humans receive love and some of the felines even receive a furever home through the program. Animal assisted therapy is proven to be a success and helps humans lower blood pressure, decrease rates of depression and anxiety and promote healing. Meowza, I love this idea.

Crazy Places Cat’s Hide At The Vets

“I am NOT hiding in this photo because The Female Human takes us to a cat friendly practice where we have no fear and no need to hide.” – Alberto, FelineOpines.net

There are some funny photos here showing how many of my feline furiends attempt to keep away from the vet but I have to say, going to the place of white coats with the stabby people can be nerve wracking. The Tribe of Five used to hide until the people with the white coats where we go built a brand new, fearless practice. Oliver and I opined about this place and it is amazing. I would suggest that all my feline furiends talk to your humans and have them find a cat friendly place with white coats too.

Cat Owners Spend A Lot Of Time Talking to Their Felines – NY Post

enlight2

My human and I having a serious conversation about her mocking me. Alberto FelineOpines.net

Now why in the world this idea of humans talking to cats is newsworthy is beyond this feline’s comprehension. Duh, of course humans talk to their cats! The photo above is The Female Human explaining to me that she wasn’t mocking me, just doing a little something for the human kids who come to our door in funny outfits and expect candy. This article provides some interesting tidbits but again, some of “findings” are no-brainers for anyone who shares their life with felines, like the fact that 93% of humans with cats in their homes say they have a strong connection with their felines. Of course they do!!

The Best Mewsic Ever! Bongo Cat – Kotaku

Felines and humans alike enjoy mewsic and what better way to enjoy your favorite tunes that with Bongo Cat? He started out as a humble bongo playing feline and then many more animators jumped in and Bong Cat now plays a plethora of mewsical instruments.  If you want to hear the full scope of this tuneful cat, go to Twitter and enter #BongoCat. There are quite a few tuneful entries in this article.

Pet Shelter Where 75-Year-Old Naps With Cats Raised Enough Funds To Cover The Year – HuffPost

man naps with cats at shelter

This story is for all you humans who don’t think you can do anything to help the lives of shelter cats and it’s also a tale of how one good deed can take over the internet and provide for a shelter.  The photos above were taken by the founder of Safe Haven, Elizabeth Feldhausen and, as the article says, “they hit the internet like catnip”.

The cat-napper, Terry Lauerman, has one desire, for people to donate to the cage free sanctuary that rescues disabled cats who would otherwise be in danger of euthanasia. And meowza did the humans respond! The shelter director said, ““We did make more than our operating costs for last year.” Depending on the condition of the cats we take in, it could cover our costs for a year, or it could cover about 50 cats’ surgeries.”

Blind Kitty Helps Get His Grandma Cancer Free With Hospital Visits & Cuddles – People
Donny the blind therapy cat

This is a story that shows you should never underestimate the power of purrs, love and adoption. Susan Smith and her husband saw Donny, a  2-year-old rescue cat  born without eyes and with the neurological condition Cerebellar Hyperplasia, which causes him to wobble and fall over when he walks.  Donny was adopted and added to the Smith’s furry family of 3 blind cats and a blind dog.

Donny’s amazing purrsonality made itself known quickly and his humans had him joined  NSALA’s Outreach Program as a therapy cat. Through this program, Donny makes regular visits to hospitals, nursing homes and Alzheimer’s facilities where he contentedly sits in the laps of residents and patients and receives countless pats.

When Smith’s 88-year-old mother was diagnosed with lung cancer and moved into a hospital for a more than a month to receive radiation treatments, Donny already had all the credentials and skills he needed to soothe her and after 17 radiation treatments and visits from Donny, grandma was pronounced cancer free! Follow Donny and the rest of his furry siblings on Instagram.

Never, ever underestimate the power of the purr! You go Donny!

What can cats eat? Papa’s Cat Café teaches local kids how to care for their felines – Missourian
KidsCatCafe

If you follow my Wednesday web wanderings you know I am a HUGE fan of cat cafes. As a matter of fact, we have a cat cafe section on our website (it’s found under “The Felines Opine About”, you’ll see “Cat Cafes). This cat cafe (Poppa’s Cat Cafe in Missouri)  has a twist that we really like, it teaches mini humans how to take care of the felines in their lives during their Saturday morning Cat Academy. The mini humans get a lesson about cats, story time, a cat-themed craft and an extra 30 minutes of kitty cuddle time.

I think this would be a great idea for all cat cafes and some shelters too!

Instant  Cat  Daddy – Bustle

Paris Zarcilla cat daddy

As if it’s not funny enough for someone to come home and find a cat in their house, this guy went upstairs to get a sweater and found a cat momma and her babies under his bed. So what did he do, you might ask? He tweeted about it and then accepted his new position in life as Cat Daddy. I made our Purrsonal Assistant read me all his tweets and they were pawsome! Do yourself a favor and fly on over to Twitter to congratulate the proud new Poppa!

America’s Got Talent….and Cats! Shortlist

cats on Americas Got Talent

So, this happened. Two humans brought their very talented felines on the show. You must have your human show you the video. The best part is the smug expressions of disbelief on the judges faces…until the fabulous felines start their act. The normal crotchety Simon Cowell said, “You know why that was so impressive? Because dogs want to please. Cats are like, ‘Make me.’ They had sort of like ‘cattitude.’ I think there’s a gap in the market for this. I thought with my dogs sometimes, it’s like I want to take them out and see a show and this is a show I can take them to.”

So if there are any feline furiends out there who are considering a career in show biz, now’s the time!

The Five Best Cities in The World for Cat Lovers to Visit – Matador Network

Siamese cat in St. Petersburg Russia

For all my human furiends who love to get their “cat fix” when they are traveling, these cities are for you. The strays and outdoor cats of Rome are well looked after, some folks even leave plates of pasta for them.

The Turkish people are huge cat lovers and they treat their felines very well. There is an actual cat village in Taiwan (I reported on this on my April 11 Web Walk). It started as a refuge and morphed into a complete remake of the town. And then there’s the cats of the Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg Russia and that museum has one of the longest histories of caring for felines, since the 18th century no less.  And finally there’s Tokyo, and we all know how the Japanese folks love us cats! And there are even cat islands outside of the city.

Cats Can Be Life Changing for People With Mental Illness – Metro UK

therapy cats

We felines are very good for our human’s well being and some of us are even trained to help with our human’s health.  The Tribe of Five has two special furiends named Deszi and Raena, at Deziz World, who are real service cats.
Deziz World
As their human explains on their website, “They have been Individually TRAINED to do work and perform tasks related to my disability. Examples of such work or tasks include alerting before a Syncope episode (passing out), Driving an electric wheelchair, Dialing 911 for emergency assistance, Calming me during a PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) anxiety attack, Massaging to alleviate debillitating migraines and warm muscles do to neuropathy/fibromyalgia among other duties. That being said, I love the girls more than life itself and aside from their duties as service animals I could not go on without their love and affection.”

So, if you don’t think felines can do valuable work….think again!

Britain’s Most Caring Cat? – itv.com

Britain's most caring cat

Those Brits really know how to treat felines. They even have a Britain’s ‘Most Caring Cat’ national charity competition. And if that isn’t enough, they have other categories like hero cat, Furrever Friends., Outstanding Rescue and more.  This guy named Arthur, is on the short list for the honor as he A helped his human live an independent life following a three-and-a-half year stay at a mental health unit. We felines add a lot to the lives of you humans so be sure and thank your cat today!

True Love – Feline and Human Style – The DoDo

orange tabby brothersThe course of true love can be a wild ride as two humans recently discovered. They meet through an online dating service and soon discovered that their felines were long-lost brothers.   Come to find out, the humans had adopted these brothers from the same shelter four days apart. “”After realizing that we had long-lost cat brothers, we were amazed and felt like it was serendipity!” says Cavin. “It was love at first sight when we met and the cats just solidified that we truly belong together!”

Keeping Up With the Kattarshians’ Will Be Your New Favorite Cat Reality Show – Mental Floss

live stream kitten show from IcelandThe humans have friends who recently moved to Iceland. I kept thinking,  “Iceland, what in the world is in Iceland?”  Well, come to find out, those Iceland folks are pretty clever and have created a new reality show, which is, as the review says, is just about everything you could want in a reality show. The advertisement says,Four kittens. One dollhouse. The drama between nine-week-old kittens Guðni, Stub, Bríet, and Ronja is palpable. Who will nab the top bunk bed? Is Guðni teasing his sisters again? How will the family deal when Stub has to have part of his tail amputated? (He’s fine.)”   Humans, hand over the clicker, the cats now have their own favorite show!

Hilarious Adoption Cards at Shelter Aim to Get Cats Adopted – People

funny cat adoption cards

A clever human figured out how to make felines even more adoptable by making some pretty funny adoption cards. The cards feature a photo of the cat, his/her name and provides a list of their likes — “sleeping in a sunbeam”  — and dislikes  — “the warlock’s curse that transformed her into a cat.” All of the cards are funny and clever and here’s hoping it will help more of my feline friends find furever homes.

Never heard of service cats? Read about them here.

There is also a cat named Henry who helps to find lost kitties. We felines have lots of jobs and I think, humans are only beginning to learn what we are capable of.
