When we sent the feline human to #BlogPaws in May she had a mission, to obtain signed copies of books from her fellow members of the Cat Writer Association to decorate her table and donate to the auction for our local shelter, The Panhandle Animal Shelter’s annual fund raiser, Hodge Podge at The Lodge. Well those cat writers are generous people and we felt it important to highlight each author who generously donated to our cause.
A note of explanation about the event. Humans sponsor and decorate a table at the event and then invite their human friends to come and bid on auction items and even the tables. Our human is doing a “Litter-Ary Cat table, complete with signed copies of cat books (thanks to the generosity of the human’s fellow Cat Writer’s Association members, cat wines, catnip cigars, cat bookends and other cat-themed library stuff. The human will post pictures after the August 29th event.
I was purrrrticularily excited to learn about Mollie Hunt’s books as she writes a series of cat mysteries and we love mysteries, especially when cats are involved! Mollie generously donated a copy of each of her books in the Crazy Cat Lady series , Cat’s Eyes, Copy Cats and Cat Paw. Mollie’s books feature a heroine, Lynley Cannon who is a cat shelter volunteer and a woman who manages to get tangled in dicey situations. And, the thread that runs through this book series is, of course cats!
Mollie has written other wonderful cat-related books and pieces and she received the prestigious Muse Award in the Health and General Care Blog Category for her blog post, “Life Stages” at this year’s Cat Writer’s Association conference. The female human enjoyed meeting Mollie and she and The Tribe of Five are very grateful for her contribution to our fund raiser so that we can help shelter kitties in our community find furever homes.

My humans watch food programs on the big black screen. They also like to watch this thing called YouTube when they need to learn something (they recently used the YouTube to put together a treadmill for the female human). It stands to reason that felines can learn knew tricks with the YouTube thing as well. Case in point, watch this kitty master the art of dough kneading via video.

If you are a feline that is a bit of a wanderer, this might just be the product your humans are looking for It’s a pet door that will report on feline comings and goings. The app sends the humans push notifications whenever their furry feline friend enters and leaves the house.
I am an admirer of felines who seize an opportunity when it presents itself. Now if the humans are not so fast on the draw as far as finding furrever homes for homeless felines, I think this kitten has a brilliant idea. Just march your cute self into the studio in the middle of the broadcast. I hope the newscaster gave the kitten a furever home!
Being a rescue cat myself (as are all the Tribe of Five), I’m all for anything that helps cats become socialized in shelters because that helps them find furever homes. This pouch is a pretty nifty idea. I know my brother Oliver and I who had to be bottle-fed when our mom was killed right after we were born, would have loved to snuggle in this pouch against a human. The humans have something for their little humans called a Babybjorn. Well this is the kitten version and it works the same way. Some humans are pretty smart!
I must explain for my feline friends that “moggy” is a term for cats that they use across the pond. Hydrotherapy has, until now, only been available for dogs and what it does is help muscles to exercise while nerve regeneration is taking place from injuries. It’s also a great fitness routine. And I say, why should the dogs have all the good stuff and evidently so does this human who is looking to help cats have hydrotherapy as well. It’s not true that all cats hate water. There are lots of cats who like to be in water or around water. just sashay on over to 
Binky is not a cat to be messed with, as one criminal learned, the hard way. When this human tried to break in to a house, Binky was having none of it and not only did he prevent the burglar from getting anything in the house, he made sure the guy felt his wrath, the police had to call the purrr-a medics to treat the criminal’s injuries. Meow!

Well this feline learned something new, never knew that cats were a tradition at the NY Times! The article says that the tradition started when foreign correspondents began to adopt and/or bring cats into their homes for companionship. Times journalists from Baghdad to Dakar to Pakistan, have continued the tradition of rescuing local cats and bringing them into their homes. It wasn’t only the love of cats but the ability to do something in places where there was so much misery and war. One correspondent described it this way, “At that point, in Baghdad, there were bombs going off several times a day, sometimes killing dozens of people at time,” he explained. “The cats were a catharsis. You were able to take care of them. You knew you were making a difference.” Many of these felines return home with the journalists and their families and find themselves in much “cushier” accommodations than their wartime digs.

The male human in our house is a tech professional and we often hear abut innovative stuff techies do. This is the first time I’ve heard of tech office news that is feline related. Ferray Corporation in Tokyo has 9 resident working felines at their office. Now lest my canine friends cry “foul”, no worries, Ferray Corp hosts bring your pet to work days and other species are invited. I have always wondered why there were no cat loving drinkers out there who would take on a bit of imbibing on behalf of felines and feline lovers. Well. leave it to Portland to be the first. This happy hour is called “I love Cats. And Drinking” and is advertised as a place where people can talk about cats without feeling judged. Evidently there has been a long running battle between Seattle and Portland as to which city is the most cat friendly. Well Portland, you’ve got my vote. Two Paws Up for a happy hour for feline lovers. (If we lived closer I would insist that my humans attend!)

This little guy has quite the moniker, Skatty or Strauss von Skattebol of RebelPawz. He came to live with his human, Paul J. Thompson as a little kitten. His human has set out to sail across the the southern Atlantic Ocean (starting from New Zealand) and Skatty will be an important part of the journey. Skatty’s human is deaf, so Skatty will be his ears on board and he gives visual cues that help Paul navigate the sea.
The female human tells me that the Guantanamo Navy Base in Cuba is very controversial but this is one thing happening there that everyone can agree on. The base, best known as a wartime prison, has lots and lots and lots of felines. It is estimated that there about 500 feral kitties there. Troops, civilians and visitors are now working together with the 
reported about the fantastic feral feline film done in Riga and now I’m happy to report that this city is looking out for their feral film stars in an ingenious way. Weather gets cold in that part of the world and the good people of Riga went to work to help their kitties keep warm in the cold. The female human watches some TV program that talks about tiny houses for humans and this is the same thing, feline style. All houses are built by local carpenters from donations made via the local non-profit 
A Russian store employee captured the criminal behavior of this cat when she broke into Russia’s Vladivostok International Airport after hours and made a beeline for a popular seafood store, gobbling up $1000.00 worth of seafood. The video went viral and concerned cat folks from around the world responded, wanting to pay for her thievery, for a vet check up (after eating all that salty seafood) and there were offers of adoption as well. Even one of Russia’s most famous cat trainers offered to adopt her and make her a star in his show. After purrrusing her options, the feline decided to join the 
When a German passenger noticed an orange Tabby sleeping peacefully on a seat in the subway car in Baden Wurtenberg, Germany he and other passengers were surprised to see the relaxed feline, snoozing away. . No one knew where he came from and they politely allowed him to sleep all the way to the subway’s destination in Kirchheim. The passenger took a photo of the sleeping commuter and posted on social media noting that this little guy’s owners might be looking for him. The cat was taken to an animal shelter and was reunited with his humans there. The new version of the feline hobo!
What’s better than a wedding? The wedding of two veterinarians who invite two kittens to the event. This couple invited two cute little tuxedo kittens to the wedding and the reception and as you can see on the website, included them in all the important wedding photos. They even included a number of feline touches in the wedding decor. The couple both volunteer at their local shelter,
